Sebastian Vettel is a quick learner, says Adrian Newey – Formula 1 News
Red Bull Racing team’s technical chief, Adrian Newey, has recently said that his driver, Sebastian Vettel has raised his ‘game’ in the 2011 season, following his 2010 title win.
He also mentioned that Vettel is a quick learner, who rarely makes the same mistake twice during his race. Newey said that the German driver is a very strong competitor of Formula 1 and at this moment, he is really on top of his game.
Newey added, “Sebastian will often work late trying to understand how the car is working and how he can improve. Seb is very perceptive in his feedback in some regards and Mark is very perceptive in other areas. We listen to both and it helps the car.”
He also discussed the performance of his second driver, Mark Webber. He said that the gap between both team-mates have been wider in the ongoing season’s races, when compared to last year. He admitted that Webber’s performance in the current season is quite
impressive.
The technical chief went on to add that the Australian driver took much time to understand the complete working of Pirelli tyres, but now he has successfully closed his gap with Vettel.
Other than his performance in races, he also talked about his future with the team. He continued that he is hopeful Webber will stay with Red Bull in the next season.
The Formula One engineer previously won race titles with the Williams and McLaren teams. However, he admitted that in many ways, winning the drivers’ and constructors’ titles with Red Bull Racing team in 2010, was the most satisfying of them all.
He further added, "When I left McLaren to come here in 2006 lots of people said: ‘Newey's bitten off too much this time. He's going to fall on his face and wreck his career’. I try not to be affected by what other people say but everything we've achieved
over the last five years has been amazing."
Red Bull team is in very competitive form and it will be interesting to see how others team push to beat them in the up-coming race, to be held in Spain, on May 22.
