Sebastian Vettel keenly looks forward to 2012 Japanese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel is keenly looking forward to perform well in the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix which is to be held at Suzuka this weekend.
Vettel claimed back-to-back victories in Japan in 2009 and 2010. However, he could not score his third consecutive win at Suzuka during the preceding season which really disturbs him. Therefore, he is eagerly waiting to come up stronger in the approaching
race and is preparing himself for the unfinished business.
The veteran German driver said that he really loves the track of the forthcoming race which is one of the most challenging circuits in the calendar. Moreover, he praised the Japanese fans for all their love and support.
“I love the Suzuka circuit. In short, it has the most amazing corners and brilliant fans, I really like coming here,” said Vettel. “In 2011 the country experienced unbelievable difficulties, so it was extremely important to try and give them some enjoyment
and to show our support for their suffering.”
Furthermore, he said that he feels a bit upset that he could not win the Japanese GP last year. Nonetheless, he asserted that he is confidently targeting to secure competitive result in the race ahead.
“I wish I had won in 2011, it was my third Formula One race on my favourite track and it still bothers me a bit that I took my world title with a third place. The track itself is huge and almost every meter of it is special,” he added.
At present, he is standing at second place in the drivers’ championship with 165 points. Besides, he is ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and is behind Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who is currently leading the drivers’ rankings with 194 points.
Although, the Spaniard has a strong lead over the defending champion, nevertheless, the championship fight is still open and both the drivers have been deemed as one of the most competent title contenders.
It will be interesting to see that whether the 25-year-old will be able to close the gap to the three-time world champion in the season ahead or not.
