Red Bull Racing driver, Sebastian Vettel, has said that he is very much looking forward to perform well in the 2013 British Grand Prix which is going to be held at Silverstone circuit this weekend.
Vettel showed convincing pace in the second free Friday practice session in Silverstone and successfully collected some valuable data regarding their updates. He has stated that he is expecting a tough competition in this weekend’s
race and is targeting to attain competitive result for his team.
In addition, he asserted that Mercedes seemed very strong during the afternoon which wasn’t surprising for him. Besides, he said that they tried their best to make the necessary preparations for the qualifying and the race so as
to maintain their lead in the championship fight.
“Surely there will be competition and I'm looking forward to that,” he said. “I think it will be tight despite the fact that it's a long circuit, but usually cars are within a couple of tenths around here. I haven't really seen
what the others did but Mercedes looked very strong on one lap, but maybe that isn't a surprise. We tried to do a little bit of both quali and race prep and now we need to look into it.”
Moreover, he said that tyre management is going to play an important role in the forthcoming race. Nevertheless, he expressed that drier and warmer conditions on Sunday will make the race easy for all the contenders.
“It's quite tough for the tyres when it's cool like today. Sunday should be sunny, or so I was told, but we'll see,” he added.
Currently, the German driver is leading the drivers’ championship with 132 points and has a strong lead of 36 points over his main rival, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. He has scored three race wins and two podium finishes in the
first seven rounds of the season.
The competition is expected to be tougher in the season ahead. It will be really exciting to see how the triple world champion performs in the approaching races and whether he will be able to defend his title or not.
