Sebastian Vettel not frustrated with overtaking criticism – Formula 1 news
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel has stated that he does not get frustrated when he is criticised for not being capable of overtaking his rivals on the track.
Vettel said that in 2011, they were mostly in lead so there was no one to overtake and as a result he was repeatedly criticised about his overtaking abilities.
“It's not a frustration because in the end it's like that. To win from the front or to come through the field is the same thing; you still do your best,” Vettel said. “Obviously people credit the fact that you have overtaken people, you've come through the
field or whatever more than you pulling away and pulling a lead of 8.75s for example. They don't understand how much maybe it's worth to pull a gap of a second or eight seconds or 12 seconds at the time, it's always different and I'm sure if you run the race
again it doesn't happen the same way twice.”
However, this season was not as easy as the last one and on many occasions Vettel had to push forward from the back of the grid; just like the race in Abu Dhabi after his disqualification due to a fuel irregularity.
The German added that he finds all the speculation quite funny since a while back, you are the driver who cannot overtake; then you do and suddenly everybody changes their opinions about your driving. Vettel said that in the end it does not matter what other
people think and write but what counts is that you are honest to yourself and have proven yourself as well.
Red Bull Racing has continuously admitted that this past season was definitely the most difficult for them so far. The team has not only been winning the constructors’ title for the last three years but Vettel’s latest win has made him the youngest triple
champion in the history of F1.
The Austrian team has now become the fourth team in F1 to achieve three consecutive titles and Vettel needs only two more consecutive wins in order to break legendary Michael Schumacher’s record of five successive titles.
