Sebastian Vettel not looking to break Schumacher’s record of seven world titles yet – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel speaks up that he is not looking to target Mercedes GP’s Michael Schumacher record of seven world championships at this stage of his career.
The German driver is only 24 years of age at the moment and has already bagged two world championships back-to-back. He is the youngest driver in the sport, who wins double championship in very early age.
Niki Lauda, who is a three-time world champion, has said that Vettel has the potential to beat Schumacher’s record of seven world titles. But, Vettel himself has denied any thoughts of looking to level or beat the record of Mercedes driver.
“I think that's a long, long way,” he told reporters. “We've had two phenomenal years and it's easy to get overexcited and talk about those things. We know how much it takes to win a race, not to mention a world championship, so it really puts it in perspective
talking about more than two world championships.”
“It's a long, long way and I don't think you can set the target at seven world championships or something like that.” He further added.
Vettel also mentioned that Red Bull will be trying hard to prolong their winning streak through 2012. He admitted that the benchmark has been set very high by them, but they are optimistic about performing next season as well.
He went to add that 2011 has been a special season for Red Bull, as they did not have to face any technical failures with the car realising. Both of RB7 cars have their limits and sometimes they break, but that has not been the case for them this season.
Red Bull Racing car has played its part in performing so well this season.
“We know that it has been a special season from all sides; I've had a very good run.”
It will be interesting to see how Vettel performs without the pressure of a world championship and the constructors’ championship title, at the newly unveiled Buddh International Circuit this weekend on October 30, 2011 in Noida, India.
