Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing wins 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
2010 Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing has won his second consecutive race of the 2011 season, the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Vettel has won both the races of the 2011 season and he is certainly on track to defending his world title.
Vettel scored the pole position in the very last second of the qualifying session but he stayed in front throughout the entire race and won it comfortably ahead of McLaren’s Jenson Button who finished second.
Nick Heidfeld of Renault finished in 3rd place ahead of Mark Webber who finished fourth. However, the collision between Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton enabled Heidfeld to finish on podium. Hamilton and Alonso were fighting for the final podium
position during the final quarter of the race when Alonso’s Ferrari collided with the rear of Hamilton’s car.
The Spaniard’s Ferrari was severely damaged from the front as the left side of his front wing came off completely.
Both of the drivers had to pit as a result enabling Heidfeld to take the final podium position of the race.
Other than that, Vitaly Petrov retired from the race along with the two Williams drivers.
The race was exhilarating and dramatic throughout and it was great to see Michael Schumacher finishing ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg in the ninth place.
Meanwhile, Red Bull Racing Team are way ahead of McLaren now with 72 points in the constructors’ standings increasing the margin between the two teams to 22 points.
In the drivers’ standings, Sebastian Vettel has a perfect score and is leading the championship with 50 points followed by Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton in 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
Ferrari and Mercedes GP are not looking good as both of the teams have been unable to secure a single podium in the first two races of the 2011 Formula 1 season and it seems that only McLaren have the pace to challenge Red Bull this season.
