Sebastian Vettel officially enters his name in F1 history books
The FIA Gala Prize Giving Ceremony for the 2010 season took place this Friday giving the drivers’ championship trophy to Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull. The FIA president, Jean Todt graced the event by his presence, and distributed the awards among the winners.
The ceremony was, of course, a typical Formula One evening, glistened with the stars of the sport, amidst a very glamorous and elegant atmosphere, in Monaco. Among many of the other jubilant men and teams, Red Bull sparkled as it collected, the drivers’
as well as the constructors’, championship. The stage was shared by Vettel and the Red Bull team Principal, Christian Horner who went to collect the drivers' and the constructors' championships.
After having fought a very tough and brutal battle all through the season, the Austrian squad came out as the winners, leaving McLaren team at second place while Ferrari stood at third in the constructors’ championship. On the other hand, the Red Bull driver,
Vettel after bagging the fifth victory of the season, at the Yas Marina Circuit after the season decider, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, stood out as the youngest champion of the sports’ history as he grabbed the first championship of the season.
The evening officially marked the German driver’s name in the history books of Formula One as ‘the youngest world champion’, a position previously held by the McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton.
As he received the award the 23-years-old said, "This is an amazing evening for me and for the Red Bull Racing team. I'm thrilled to be here to collect the drivers' championship trophy, something I have dreamt of since I started racing. Winning the championship
is unbelievable; it marks an incredible season for us, with many ups and downs. We kept believing in our team, in our car and enjoyed every race.”
He further passed on his acknowledgements to the team as he said, "I would really like to thank all the Red Bull Racing team and Renault Engines for their efforts and dedication in ensuring we had such an amazing car this year. I am extremely proud of the
success we have achieved together."
For Vettel the series of celebration and success is far from over since he bagged the championship at the start of November. One after the other weekend, he is attending award distribution ceremonies along with his team, travelling all across the globe.
