Sebastian Vettel pleased with his second place finish in China
Red Bull Racing Team’s Sebastian Vettel’s seemingly unbeatable streak was finally broken by Lewis Hamilton at the Chinese Grand Prix, as the McLaren driver took the victory ahead of the reigning world champion.
But Vettel was happy with his second place finish, as he claims that it was a difficult race for him.
The main reason for Sebastian’s decline in this race was his poor start as both of the McLaren’s, which started from 2nd and 3rd place, were able to overtake him before getting to the first corner of the lap. The reigning world champion
admitted that the start was crucial for him.
“I think the start was not the best we had this year. For some reason it seems the left hand side is worse than the right hand side here, plus the fact that you turn right doesn't really help. It wasn't a 100% good start so I also lost a position to Lewis
who started behind me”, said Vettel.
Nevertheless, Vettel was able to regain his lead twice throughout the race but his worn out tyres enabled Lewis to pass him easily later on in the race.
“Then it was about being patient, I think we treated the tyres better in the first stint and could have stayed out but there's no point in doing that because you try obviously to pit earlier”, he added.
Even though Sebastian’s winning streak was just of 3 races with 2 of them in the 2011 Formula 1 season, it seemed that his pace was unbeatable according to the results of the first two races, as the young German took 2 consecutive pole positions followed
by easy victories, as none of the drivers were able to match his pace including his teammate, Mark Webber.
As a result, Mark stated that Sebastian is in a league of his own and it seemed that he would be able to dominate this season in terms of points.
However, the Chinese Grand Prix changed the picture and McLaren finally caught the fast RB7 of the reigning world champion.
