Sebastian Vettel praises ‘rhythmic’ Canadian GP – Formula 1 News
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel has claimed that the Canadian GP is one of the best races on the Formula 1 calendar and he enjoys the ‘rhythm’ of the venue, which is different to some of the other tracks.
The three-time world champion stated, “The circuit has a nice rhythm and it’s one of the best races we have all year. The atmosphere and fans are great, the whole city lives F1 for the whole week and that makes us feel very special. I like it.”
Although the German driver has never won a race at this venue, he believes that the unpredictable nature of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve makes it quite unique.
Remembering one of the most eventful races in Canada, Vettel added, “Obviously one of the craziest moments was in 2011. There was so much rain; I haven’t seen that much rain carry on for so long since! During the race we had a big break and were in the lead. The race was difficult and with half a lap to go, I made my first mistake of the race which cost us the win.”
However, the young champion will be looking forward to change for fortunes this time around, as his confidence level is high. He is currently leading the Drivers’ Championship and has got a very good car under him. This will allow him to give a tough time to his rivals Ferrari, Lotus and Mercedes.
Vettel was under some pressure during the previous round of the 2013 Formula 1 season, as his main rivals Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen were not far behind in the championship back then.
Luck did not favour the former world champions though, as they were unable to score a solid points finish in Monaco. On the other hand, Vettel ended up second on the podium, which allowed him to stretch his lead.
If the 25-year-old driver manages to seal a victory in Canada, he will really be in a good position to take his fourth consecutive title. However, it is still too early to make any predictions, as all of the major teams will be bringing in some upgrades for the next round. The real picture will be clear after the practice sessions are concluded.
