Sebastian Vettel questions FIA’s new rules and regulations for 2011 season – Formula 1 news
The 2010 Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel recently questioned the rules and regulations changes by FIA during an interview and stated that it is really not necessary for the FIA to introduce new rules and methods of improving the sport each year.
“F1 is becoming more radical, with more and more attention being put into the show. I wonder if this is necessary,” said Sebastian.
For the 2011 Formula 1 season, the FIA has reintroduced moveable rear wings in order to make it easier for the drivers to overtake. Movable rear wings are basically used to change the angle of the rear wing during the race in order to increase or decrease
the downforce. The teams usually increase the amount of downforce in long straights in order to go up more maximum speeds and cover up the time lost during the more ‘tighter’ portions of a specific track.
Other than that, they also introduced the new Pirelli tyre compounds that have been designed to make each race more unpredictable. The new tyre compounds have a lot of variety which would obviously increase the strategic options for each team and make racing
more unpredictable and dramatic.
Lastly, the reintroduction of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System is also one of the major changes made by the FIA. The KERS is a device which converts heat energy into kinetic energy before storing it for later use. After a certain amount of energy has been
stored, the drivers can then later on use that energy in order to give their car a sort of a ‘power boost’ to achieve higher top speeds wherever they want.
Sebastian Vettel believes that these changes are becoming too sudden now.
“If a critical point is reached, we would sit down together and discuss it. It's about our safety,” added the 2010 world champion.
However, some of the drivers including Jenson Button have stated that the new technology introduced by the FIA needs a lot of ‘tweaking’ and after that, the system runs quite efficiently.
As far as the teams go, it is quite obvious that they would have to experiment with these new devices a lot and try to come up with the best ‘all-rounder’ package in order to ensure consistent and reliable results in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Formula 1 requires a change but not such an abrupt change. The drivers need to step it up now and prove that they are the best in the world and in order to do that, they will have to utilise these devices at their best in order to attain the best possible
results for their respective teams.
