Sebastian Vettel receives trophy at the FIA Prize Giving Gala – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has received his Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship trophy at the FIA Prize Giving Gala held in Istanbul, Turkey on Friday evening.
Vettel performed tremendously well during the 2012 F1 season and successfully claimed his third consecutive championship title. Moreover, he has become the youngest triple world champion in the history of the sport.
The veteran German driver expressed great delight on accepting his trophy during the ceremony and said that he really feels immensely proud to win his third title with Red Bull.
It will be important to note that he struggled with his race pace during the start of the season as the Milton Keynes based squad failed to create thorough understanding about their car’s design.
Nevertheless, their chief technical officer, Adrian Newey kept on making the significant advancement in RB8 and provided Vettel with the most competent car with which he performed exceptionally well during the last few grands prix and won the title by just
3 points from his major opponent, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
The three-time world champion said that although they faced a lot of difficulties during the season, but they fought well as a team and came out successful in the end. Besides, he praised the efforts of all the team members who have worked really hard throughout
the year.
“It’s a fantastic feeling to be here tonight and to be able to take this trophy back home for another year. As I said last time, it isn’t something you want to give back,” the triple world champion said. “Winning the title with Red Bull Racing three times
in a row makes us all feel very proud. This was a season with lots of ups and downs and the team had to push hard to get me over the line. In the garage and at the factory everyone did an incredible job, and the support we had from Renault was also great.”
Additionally, he said that they are looking forward to come up stronger in the coming year so as to be able to defend their championship title.
