Sebastian Vettel refuses to compare himself to Michael Schumacher
The new World Champion, Sebastian Vettel dismisses all the rumours regarding his aim to break the record of his fellow countryman and one of the most successful racer of Formula One’s history, Michael Schumacher.
Schumacher holds the record of the highest championship wins in Formula One history with his seven victories. He also holds the record of being the first German ever to have embraced a World Championship, while Vettel is the second.
The two German drivers have always enjoyed a very healthy relation with each other. Now, for taking the first Championship of his career, Schumacher has expressed a lot of joy for the young German.
Since his early races with the series, Vettel has been often compared to the racing icon. Many of the analysts and reports have often dubbed the lad as the 'new Schumi' in Formula One.
The two hold much more in common than just being from the same country. They have often been compared in their passion and determination as well as the mastery in their racing skills, although Vettel still has a lot to learn from the veteran champ. Moreover,
the two have now a similar career track also, as both have packed their first championship during the third full season in the sport.
Looking at the tough battle that Vettel had to fight during this very demanding season, many questioned him whether he had the aim of breaking the record of the Mercedes driver. Vettel was all but surprised at the question believing that it was too early
to be asked about something as such.
Vettel proclaimed that having won even a single championship was a very tough ask and winning seven titles is a monstrous achievement. He continued explaining that it is only now that he has understood the stress and difficulties of championship battles.
While talking to the reporters earlier this week he said, "Michael managed to do it seven times! I don’t spend any time thinking about his records though. I am certainly not in Formula 1 just to try and break any of them. I don’t really like to compare my
life and career with his.”
Vettel very rightfully said that Schumacher is ‘simply a legend’ while on the other hand he still has to prove his mettle.
When asked about his intentions of driving alongside Schumacher for Mercedes GP, Vettel said that he yet has no plans for this. The 23-year-old revealed that he often talks to the racing sensation and his old friend about the experience of being in such
celebrated teams like Ferrari and Mercedes. However, he was quick to add that this does not mean that he is wishing to switch to his team.
Vettel expressed contentment with his current team, Red Bull Racing, which he thinks is although less historic but surely dominates the track.
The youngest World Champion explained saying, "Of course he has told me about all the special experiences you can have when you drive for Ferrari. Or for Mercedes. Both marques are the past, present and almost certainly the future of Formula 1. Every driver
secretly dreams about Ferrari or Mercedes, but in reality to actually drive for either of them depends on many different factors.”
He said that for entering into a new team there is a lot more to be seen than just the legacy. Vettel has currently extended the existing contract with Red Bull, and has further expressed his desire to stay with the team as long as the car stays competitive.
The new super star of Formula One, concluded saying, "The next thing for me is to defend the championship with Red Bull. At the moment we have something that is crucial for success in Formula 1, the right people in the right place.”
