Sebastian Vettel says 2012 has been a long year of ups and downs – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel believes that the 2012 Formula 1 season was the toughest one in his career so far as he struggled a lot with his qualifying pace.
Vettel performed amazingly well during the last season and completely dominated with 11 grands prix victories. Even though, he faced immense difficulties during the start of this year as the Milton Keynes based team failed to create profound understanding
about their car’s design because of the amendments in the rules by FIA.
Nevertheless, Red Bull kept on fighting hard and efficiently developed the fastest car towards the end of this season so as to help their star driver in claiming his third consecutive world championship title.
However, the veteran German driver had a tough battle with Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who fought well until the end of the season. Therefore, he insisted that this year had been full of ups and downs.
“I think yes; it was a long, long year of ups and downs,” he said during the Autosport Awards, where he was named International Racing Driver of the Year.
In addition, he said that he faced immense difficulties to score competitive points in this season as he struggled with his qualifying pace in most of the races.
“Maybe in the beginning I didn't have the car I liked maybe it was competitive in the race but in qualifying it was difficult for me to find that extra step,” the 25-year-old said.
Nonetheless, he performed inspiringly well during the last few races and successfully won the championship title.
Additionally, he said that they are feeling extremely happy with the final results and are eagerly looking forward to come up stronger right from the start of the next season.
“At the end of the season though we got more comfortable, it felt better,” he added. “Obviously we had some tough luck early in the season but in the end we scored some big points and were in the lead.”
It will be exciting to see whether the winning streak of the three-time world champion continues in the future or not.
