Sebastian Vettel says ‘RB7’ should be competitive in upcoming European Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull racing driver Sebastian Vettel has said that the team’s RB7 car should be strong during the upcoming Valencia Grand Prix, taking place on June 26, 2011 in Europe.
Vettel also mentioned that the qualifying round of the upcoming grand prix will be important for the team, as there will less overtaking chances during the race at the ‘tricky’ Valencia street circuit.
The current world champion has been the dominant driver in the ongoing season so far. He has won five races out of seven rounds of the 2011 season. He is leading the season’s championship with 161 points. He was conceded favourite to win the 2011 title following
his very strong start to the ongoing season.
The Red Bull driver could not achieve his sixth race victory in the recently held Canadian Grand Prix, as McLaren’s Jenson Button beat him during the last lap of the race.
Despite the second place finish in Montreal, Vettel is confident for the European Grand Prix. He said that he will have to focus on the qualifying round and that he must have a decent pace during the Valencia race.
The German mentioned, “The atmosphere around the harbour in Valencia is quite similar to Monaco, except that the paddock is bigger and the garages are larger. The circuit is a street circuit, but the average speed (200kph) is extremely high, so it's tricky.”
He went on to add, “In general you need a lot of wing for the corners and less for the relatively long straights, which means you have to find a compromise. There are no run-off zones, so you can't make any mistakes - a small slide and you end up in the
wall. Overtaking is difficult and the only real possibility is in Turn 12.”
The 23-year-old driver discussed his 2010 season in Valencia. He added that they had a good pace last season over there and got positive results as well.
Vettel is looking forward to achieve his sixth race victory of ongoing season at the European Grand Prix. Let’s see how he manages race in Valencia this weekend.
