Sebastian Vettel says RB8 was not as quick as they wanted on Friday at Monza – Formula 1 news
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing is not satisfied with the performance of RB8 during the first two practice sessions of the Italian Grand Prix.
He expects that Red Bull will improve the car with the amount of data they have.
The German driver completed 49 laps during the final practice 1 and 2 sessions and recorded important data which is expected to help in getting the most out of his car.
He said, “I think overall we are not as quick as we would like to be, so some work to do I guess.”
He was not satisfied with his performance over the Monza circuit and said that they are more competitive on the race day. They were not able to achieve the pace they were looking for, however, the positive thing about the day was that they did not face any
problems with their drive.
The German driver did not comment over the performance of other drivers as he was fully focused on his own performance.
Vettel said, “I don't know what we did and what the others did, but I think we are probably more competitive in race trim. But for sure today wasn't as good for true pace - I think you could see that we weren't quick enough so a lot to do.”
The Red Bull driver accepted that RB8 is not in a position to challenge a pole during the qualifying session at the Italian GP, as the competition at the top positions is tight enough. He added that they should try to improve their performance and should
try their best during the qualifying round.
The fastest lap he registered during the FP2 was completed in 1 minute and 26.394 seconds against 1 minute and 25.290 seconds of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren who topped the FP2. The gap from the leader is 1.104 seconds.
The results are just from the practice sessions and do not depict the true picture of the qualifiers as Red Bull has an impressive history of improving their car in one night prior to the qualifiers. It would be interesting to see how they cater to the issue
this time.
