Sebastian Vettel says Red Bull will be running RB8 with new parts – Formula 1 news
Sebastian Vettel said that Red Bull will be running new parts on the RB8 which makes the final two days of the final pre-season test very important for the team.
Adrian Newey earlier suggested that Red Bull still has a few things up their sleeve to test for the new car. Red Bull now have confirmed that they are using new parts in the RB8 and will be watching closely at the progress.
McLaren have also confirmed that they are testing new parts in their car. Both Red Bull and McLaren are considered to be the leaders of the pack for the upcoming season, while Lotus and Mercedes look to be in good shape as well.
“The last couple of days of testing are always quite important as you always bring a few new things and it's much closer to the car you will race in Melbourne,” Vettel said. “So we'll see if that works out and hopefully we'll be able to make another small
step forward before the first (race).”
Vettel after finishing the second day of the test said that it had been a messy day on Friday. He set the third fastest lap time of the day and looked in good rhythm. Red Bull did face some trouble as the car had to be stopped because of a technical difficulty.
Vettel though suggested that it was not a big issue and the team management has looked into it and found a resolution.
He further added that he hopes that the team can go through the final day of the test problem free and head into the season with confidence.
“I have one more day to go and so far testing has gone pretty well. Not perfect of course, it never is, but all in all I feel quite happy in the car. It's more or less what we expected and hopefully we'll have another two good days to prepare for the first
race,” he said.
Red Bull head into the season considered the favourites to take the title the third time in a row, but McLaren and Lotus have shown great potential and are not too far behind. The season will begin with the Australian Grand Prix scheduled for March 18, 2012.
