Sebastian Vettel says Silverstone episode with Mark Webber was a racing incident – Formula 1 news
Red Bull’s Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel has stated that the incident in the Silverstone Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season with Mark Webber was a pure racing incident, more than anything.
Vettel added that Webber was right on his part to challenge until the chequered flag and Red Bull team were also right to stop him from doing that since they feared an accident.
However, the German stated that he was not going to give away his position at any time in the Silverstone race despite team orders.
Vettel added that from Red Bull’s point of view, both of their drivers were on podium but still if Webber wanted to fight until the end, there is nothing wrong with that.
“It depends always on the situation in the race. Last race, there was nothing for us to gain as a team. Mark said he wanted to race, wanted to improve the position, but I didn't want to let him by and tried to defend,” commented Vettel.
Vettel has never won a race in Germany and stated that he is pretty much looking forward to break his duck there regardless of the fact that fans’ pressure will be there.
The German stated, “Many times people talk about pressure and things that can slow you down, but it is more positive than anything else. People everywhere support you and try to push you forward maybe to find this extra tenth or two. For me, it's great to
have this opportunity to race in front of my home country.”
Vettel has won six of the nine races of the 2011 championship and is well on course of defending his title successfully. The German has been able to be on the podium in all the nine races of the season and has a healthy lead on the championship table from
the second driver, his teammate Webber.
