Sebastian Vettel says amount of points does not really matter to him – Formula 1 news
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing is of the view that talks about points are not important at this point in the current season because one race can change things and there are many races yet to go.
He congratulated team McLaren and Jenson Button for their convincing victory at Belgian Grand Prix.
He said that after the Belgian GP he is at a better place than he was. He added that they have achieved their target after the summer break as they have successfully reduced the gap with the championship leader Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Besides, he said
that the amount of points does not matter to him because there are still a lot of races remaining in the current season and any race can change things significantly.
Vettel said, “It's a better place to be than before the race, which to be fair was the target after the break - to make sure we close the gap - but to me it doesn't really matter now to talk about the amount of points.”
Furthermore, he said that Button deserved to win the Belgian GP and congratulated McLaren. He added that they will see what they can do.
Moreover, he said that it was a difficult day during the qualifiers and their car returned to its normal performance during the race on Sunday. He added that their start was not good and he lost places during the first lap of the race. Besides, he said that
it was tough fight to his way back among the top drivers but the car’s normal performance made it achievable.
“The start was s*** and I lost a lot of positions and I was probably the only one who managed to lose places in the first lap. It was tough and then it was a tough fight to come back. But the car worked, we had the pace and it was fun to overtake,” he said.
The German driver said that after the car returned to its normal performance he enjoyed overtaking to make his way to the podium on the second place.
Vettel made it to the second place with a gap of 13.6 seconds from Button, after starting the race from 10th grid position.
