Sebastian Vettel says he was not able to maximise the potential of the RB8 at Hungary – Formula 1
Sebastian Vettel has said that he was not able to get the maximum potential out of the RB8.
Vettel was able to finish in the top three at the Hungarian Grand Prix behind Lewis Hamilton with pole and the Lotus driver Romain Grosjean at second. The German however feels that he could have had a pole position had he been able to push the car to its
limits.
Vettel looked quite competitive in FP3 on morning of the Qualifiers and was gunning for the pole position. He reckoned that he was not able to get a smooth path through to the final part  of the qualifying and that is why he was not able to get the maximum
potential out of the car.
“I think for us it was more a difficulty to get everything to work properly,” Vettel said. “I think the speed is there but it seems extremely difficult once you lose the balance a little bit, so I think we were struggling a little bit with that in qualifying.
Throughout qualifying I think it got better, so we shot through all the tyres more or less and knew that we only had one set in Q3.”
Vettel looked confident before the qualifiers and said that even with the balancing issue he was still confident that he was able to qualify for the front row while admitting that Lewis Hamilton looked a little out of reach.
“I'm not entirely happy with the lap I had, I think Romain was in reach - I think Lewis was a bit too far away today - but I think with the progress we made this morning and through qualifying I think we should be in a good position tomorrow for the race,”
he added.
Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber who also happens to be second place in the drivers’ championship was not able to finish in the top ten. Still with the pace that Red Bull have the team will be gunning for some vital points to score at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
It will be an interesting battle between the top three teams of the season, Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari while Lotus will be in as the dark horses much like they have been in the season so far.
