Sebastian Vettel says he was not bothered by Ferrari’s protest – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has said that he was not bothered by Ferrari’s protest after the last race of the 2012 Formula 1 season as he knew that he didn’t make any wrong move.
After the Brazilian Grand Prix, a dispute started about Vettel’s overtake which, according to video clip, was during the yellow flag as the warning lights were blinking in his cockpit.
Eventually, the Scarlet team wrote an unofficial letter to FIA in which it asked for the necessary clarification regarding the German driver’s overtake. In response, the Federation declared the pass legal and Ferrari considered the matter closed.
Afterwards, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali said that they went to FIA just because they had to satisfy their fans, broadcasters and sponsors.
On the other hand, Vettel, who successfully won his third consecutive world championship title by only 3 points from Fernando Alonso, gave no thoughts to the controversy and said that he followed all the rules during the season finale.
“To be honest, I never wasted one single thought that an irregularity was involved from my side,” he told the official F1 website, “Even if it was an eventful race, I definitely saw all the flags - and their colours!”
In addition, he said that his team principal, Christian Horner told him that the Italian team wasn’t happy with the race results and will go to FIA to get the necessary explanation over the issue.
However, he insisted that he was not troubled by Ferrari’s move and is feeling very much pleased to win his third title this year.
“I only got information that Ferrari was up to something after Christian [Horner] called me saying that obviously Ferrari was not too happy with the outcome of the race. After the FIA had checked every single inch of the recording of the situation in question
- and confirmed that everything was according to rules - Ferrari renounced any protests,” he added.
Besides, the triple world champion expressed that he knew he hadn’t made any wrong move in the race, after the chequered flag was signalled.
