Sebastian Vettel says intermediate tyres provided for Belgian Grand Prix not sufficient – Formula 1
The reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel has recently stated that the amount of intermediate tyres provided for the 2011 Belgian Grand Prix will not be sufficient for the weekend as the conditions are quite variable at the Spa-Francorchamps.
According to the rules, the teams can only get an extra pair of intermediates in case of a wet race which is not going to be enough since the teams are already using these tyres for the practice sessions.
“It was quite tricky because the weather changed all the time and it's a shame that in wet conditions we only have one free set of intermediates for the rest of the weekend, as you want to save tyres for Saturday and Sunday,” he said.
Other than that, he was not happy with the Friday practice sessions as he did not get to test the car as much as he wanted due to the variable conditions as a result of which setting up his car became quite difficult for him as well.
The drivers are now going to have to drive and use their intermediates quite carefully as they might not want to waste a single piece since they are going to need as many tyres as possible for the race in case of a wet race.
“We had a little bit of running in the dry and tested some updates; I think we got a decent result on those. It was difficult to judge lap times and the overall pace today, but the car feels okay. Let's see what we can do tomorrow,” he added.
One has to admit that this is the beauty of Spa as the weather conditions are completely variable and unpredictable as a result of which the Belgian Grand Prix is quite dramatic almost each year.
However, Vettel’s main goal for the final free practice session is going to be gathering as much as possible as he is not satisfied with the car at the moment and his pace as compared to his rivals is not satisfactory at all.
