Sebastian Vettel says luck will play an important role in 2012 F1 World Championship – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel says that luck will play an important role in the championship fight of 2012 Formula 1 season as there have been five different winners in the first five races.
The two-time world champion, Vettel is presently leading the drivers’ championship with 61 points along with the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. However, he said that it is not compulsory that the contenders who are in the front will be victorious
in the end as the season ahead is quite unpredictable.
"If you look at the average of the first five races then I think you have the drivers and the teams at the front that deserve to be at the front," he said. "It doesn't necessarily mean it is one team at the front always winning - we've had five different
teams with five different drivers.”
Nevertheless, he said that the luck will play its part and the driver who will be able to attain highest score will win this year’s championship title.
"But I think on average through the season with 20 races. It's alright to say that the winner will be lucky. So the one who scores the most of the points will be crowned champion at the end of the year," he said.
After struggling with the car’s setup during the start of the season, the defending champion managed to take victory in the fourth race held at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir. Conversely, he faced difficulties in the last race held at Circuit de
Catalunya in Barcelona in which he could only secure 6th place finish while his teammate, Mark Webber could not be able to score even a single point.
In addition, he said that tyre management is very crucial for the upcoming races and they need to work on this issue. He also said that he is looking forward to perform well in the next race which is to be held at Circuit de Monaco in Spain on May 27.
He added that they have been targeting to make the necessary developments and the significant preparations so as to improve the pace of RB8 for the approaching races.
