Sebastian Vettel says running at the end of FP2 in Silverstone was a waste of time – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel said that running during the end of the second free Friday practice session of 2012 British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit was a waste of time.
Vettel came 11th in the timesheets of FP1 with his best time of 1 minute and 59.414 seconds. Afterwards, in the second session, his pace was dropped off a bit as he came 13th with his fastest time of 1 minute and 59.476 seconds. Moreover,
he covered 10 laps and seemed quite uncomfortable running on the wet track.
The veteran German driver said that they remained in the pits for most of the time as they intended to save the tyres for the race. Furthermore, he said that they could hardly get any valuable information during the afternoon so as to make the essential
evaluations of the updates in RB8.
In addition, he said that it was quite unfortunate for the fans as they came hoping to see us and we kept them waiting till the end.
“I think we saved the tyres by not running,” Vettel said. “This morning and this afternoon there was just too much water so it was very tricky in these conditions. I think it was more shame for fans sitting in grandstands waiting for cars to come out and
we didn't come. We did a little bit in the end but basically it was a little bit of a waste because you can't really try anything.”
Besides, he said that he is not sure what is going to happen in the third session and the qualifying.
“We don't know what is going to happen; I think we just have to check it out tomorrow morning when we wake up,” he said.
Nonetheless, the defending champion said that they are positively looking forward to make the necessary preparations to come up stronger in the race ahead.
Presently, he is standing at 4th place in the drivers’ championship with 85 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and behind Lewis Hamilton of McLaren. Over and above, it will be interesting to see how he performs in the
upcoming race.
