Sebastian Vettel says updates in RB8 have not provided the desired results – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has said that the updates in RB8 have not provided the desired results in the 2012 Formula 1 season so far.
The defending champions struggled with the updates in their car during the last pre-season test in which Vettel came last on the timesheets and could only cover 23 laps.
In addition, the two-time world champion expressed that the current season has been the toughest one as they are going through the developmental process which has not provided the benefits which they have been aiming to gain.
“Obviously everyone lost quite a lot of downforce with the regulations changing this year and it seems to be tricky to get it back,” he said. “If you are happy with what you have then sooner or later you will get beaten so we always try to improve the car
and it doesn't seem to be as straightforward as previous years. I don't know about the other teams, but for us it was not so straightforward and easy and as I said we pulled some bits that didn't give us the benefit we were looking for.”
The veteran German driver claimed the pole position in the European GP held at Valencia Street Circuit and performed incredibly well with his upgraded car. He remained dominant throughout the race and had a 20-second lead when unluckily his alternator stopped
working and eventually he had to retire.
Contrarily, he asserted that he doesn’t know whether the upgrade regarding the aerodynamics provided him the competitive edge in the last race or there was any other factor.
Nevertheless, he said that they are making the best of the efforts to come up stronger in the forthcoming race in order to attain good results.
Over and above, he said that they must perform with consistency in the approaching races to make their position stronger in this year’s battle for the championship title.
At present, Red Bull are leading the constructors’ championship with 176 points and they are 39 points ahead of McLaren-Mercedes. Additionally, they have been deemed as the most favourite contender in the championship fight.
