Sebastian Vettel takes championship lead by winning Korean Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing won the Korean Grand Prix edging Fernando Alonso of Ferrari from the championship lead at the Yeongam circuit.
The 2nd position on the podium was attained by the other Red Bull driver, Mark Webber whereas the former championship leader Fernando Alonso could only make it the 3rd position on the podium.
The challenging race was a crucial test of nerves for the spectators and the racing teams as the tyres were used to their maximum limit of 55 laps. The tyres worn out and the drivers had to control their speed to remain competitive by the end of the race.
Almost all the driver had the worn out tyres after taking two pit stops.
The other Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa, finished at the 4th position with a gap of 20.1 seconds from the winner of the race. He was followed by the Lotus driver, Kimi Raikkonen, at the 5th position.
In the midst of the race there were some close battles between Raikkonen, Nico Hulkenberg and Romain Grosjean. Hulkenberg and Grosjean finished on 6th and 7th position, respectively.
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren could only make it to the 10th position in the race whereas Michael Schumacher attained 13th position in the race after complaining about his gearbox in the last few laps of the race. A piece of turf was stuck with Hamilton’s car
however he managed finishing the race without any unfortunate incident.
The Korean GP witnessed a problem caused by Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber which resulted in retiring Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and Jenson Button of McLaren. He himself was retired in the 16th lap of the Grand Prix. The other driver to retire from the race was
Pedro de la Rosa of HRT-Cosworth.
The victory at the Korean GP takes Vettel to the championship lead in the current 2012 season and was the third consecutive victory for the German driver and 4th in the current season. The victory gives him lead of 6 points over the former championship leader
Alonso whereas the third contender in the championship Raikkonen is 48 points behind the new championship leader.
Let’s see whether the German championship leader be able to win the championship title in the current season or not.
