Sebastian Vettel takes pole for 2012 Japanese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has secured the pole position for the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka.
Vettel set the best laptime in the third free practice session and after showing a remarkable performance later in the qualifying, he secured the pole position for the race ahead.
Moreover, it will be interesting to mention that it is the fourth consecutive pole of the veteran German driver at Suzuka which is one of the most challenging circuits in the calendar because of its fast corners.
The defending champion was followed by his teammate, Mark Webber who was the second fastest driver in the qualifying. Furthermore, Webber was followed by Jenson Button of McLaren who showed a really impressive pace but will begin the race from the 8th
grid slot as he has been hit by five-place grid penalty because of his unscheduled gearbox change.
Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber set the fourth quickest time but will take a start from third grid position. The Japanese driver was followed by Romain Grosjean of Lotus who will begin the race from 4th grid slot. Besides, Kobayashi’s teammate, Sergio
Perez secured 5th grid position for the race.
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari secured 6th grid position and Grosjean’s teammate, Kimi Raikkonen will start from 7th grid slot.
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren struggled with his pace in his first run and later remained unable to improve in the second one because of the yellow flags. Hamilton secured 9th grid position and was followed by Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who will
face five-place grid penalty as a result of his gearbox change due to his collision in FP3 which means Alonso’s teammate, Felipe Massa will set off from 10th grid position.
Furthermore, Paul di Resta of Force India will take a start from 11th grid slot while Pastor Maldonado of Williams will begin from 12th.
Mercedes drivers, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg could not make their way into the final qualifying session and stood at the 13th and 15th places in the charts. However, it is to be noted that the seven-time world champion has
to face a ten-place grid penalty for crashing into Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso in the Singapore GP.
