Sebastian Vettel takes the top spot in Turkey and third victory of 2011 season: Formula 1 Update
Red bull's driver Sebastian Vettel has finished his third race victory in Turkey on May 8, at the Istanbul Park Circuit. After a little bit disappointed race weekend in China, Vettel left an excitement in his wake, as he wins his third race victory on the
grid from the four races of 2011 season.
After the successful Friday practice session and qualifying round, all Formula 1 teams took part in Sunday race, under the sunny weather conditions. However, the drivers used the set of soft tyres over the race, as the track condition was dry and hot.
The current world champion was closely followed by his team-mate, Mark Webber, who finished his second fastest run, behind the Vettel. Webber had a tough battle with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso until the end of the race. However, Alonso got his first podium
position in Turkey, after his team’s tough start in the season.
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton, who was the leader of China race, dropped down his position on fourth place, as his car was unable to support him, during his course. His team-mate, Jenson Button, also failed to deliver his best run ahead of top runners of the
race.
The Mercedes' driver, Nico Rosberg, who was running in the second spot in the first 11 laps of the race, again failed to put his team on the podium after the China race and finished his fifth run on the Turkish grid. The seven-time world champion, Michael
Schumacher, finished at the 12th place for the team, as his car experienced a collision with Renaults’ Vitaly Petrov.
After his disappointing run, Schumi said, "Anyway the race was a given from there, lots of fighting, lots of action, but for nothing. The golden helmet, that's what we call it in Germany, that's what I got and nothing else, so it's a bit of a shame."
Both Renault’s drivers, Nick Heidfeld and Petrov were unable to finish their impressive run among the others strong contenders, however they ended in seventh and eighth position, respectively.
After the race, Heidfeld expressed his feelings about the race and said that he is unhappy with his current race condition. The German added, "Not totally happy with the race. I'm happy with the pace, which was good, but I was in traffic most of the time
and if I had a bit more free space I could easily have got a better result, but at least we have the race pace. I just have to find out why in qualifying it didn't work out yesterday."
The Sauber's driver Kobayashi enjoyed his outing and took a tenth place for the team. Ferrari’s second driver Felipe Massa ended his run with the disappointing results, despite his good start in Turkish race weekend.
After the Turkish race, the top runners of the race are looking forward to another successful race in Spain in the last week of May, 2011.
