Sebastian Vettel - the most deserving driver for 2010 title
The Red Bull driver and the youngest world Champion, Sebastian Vettel was undoubtedly the most deserving driver of the season for the title.
A few mistakes made by the driver on the track earlier this year gave an impression to some that the championship has gone to wrong hands after a very tight battle all through the season. The biggest mistake pointed out by the analysts for the 23-year-old
was his poor driving at the Belgian Grand Prix. The 2009 world champion, Jenson Button had to retire from the race, due to a very poor racing move by Vettel. As the race ended the team Principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh said that Vettel must drive for
some junior Formulae as he is not yet mature enough for Formula One. However, only a few more races went off and the driver today stands holding a number of records.
The German has enrolled his name in the history book of the sport for being the youngest man to have scored points, to have taken pole position, to have bagged a race victory and now finally he has also claimed the record of the being the youngest driver
to have won world championship. The record, before 2008, was held by Fernando Alonso and was taken from him by the McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton.
Looking at the statistics of this season one can very safely say that the championship could not have gone to better hands than Vettel’s. As the season ends Vettel not only holds the most points but also has 10 pole positions to his name, starting more than
half of the races of the season from the forefront. Moreover, he has the maximum number of race wins under his belt, i.e. five, equal to Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
While talking about the pole positions next to the champion stands his teammate, Mark Webber who scored only 5. The German's average grid position in 2010 remains 1.95, while Webber’s is 2.79. On the other hand, the average starting position of Alonso is
5.79 following Lewis Hamilton of McLaren.
Vettel's practice times also prove him to be 0.051 second per lap faster than his teammate in 19 events of the season. Furthermore, the driver was also successful in staying at the front for more than 2000 kilometres, during the 19 races of the season, whereas,
Webber led for 1500km while Alonso stands 4th in this category as Hamilton takes third place.
While talking about his performance, the Red Bull team boss Christian Horner insisted, "If Sebastian had not had so much bad luck, he would have won nine races."
