Sebastian Vettel thinks test data does not matter much for 2012 Spanish GP – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel thinks that the data which has been gathered during the two four-day pre-season tests held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona doesn’t matter much for 2012 Spanish Grand Prix.
The two-time world champion said that the information from the tests will not make a big difference in the race as the track conditions have been changed relatively over the period of time.
“The fact that you race here in May is quite different if you look at the temperatures compared to February or March. That does have quite a big change on the car to the setup, so whatever you might have found out over the winter during the testing might
not work the same way that it did during testing,” he said.
He added, “I think if you're competitive here it also means that you were competitive previously. It's a track that we usually know quite a lot about from winter testing, we have some data to compare to so it's very familiar.”
Nevertheless, he said that all the contenders who participated in the tests are well aware of the track which will provide reasonable help during the race.
On the other hand, he also said that if a team performs well on this circuit does not mean it will deliver the same level of perform on any other track.
It will be important to mention that Red Bull struggled during the last day of the final test due to the upgrades in RB8. Moreover, Vettel came last on the timesheets and could only cover 23 laps.
However, they are not worried that they will face the same difficulties in Barcelona again during the race as the conditions will be different plus they have successfully made some considerable changes in their car’s setup after the first four races.
Furthermore, they are feeling much more confident for the next GP as they have already been able to secure a victory in Bahrain and are currently leading the constructors’ championship with 101 points.
Over and above, the defending champions are trying to make the best of the efforts to make the necessary developments and the essential preparations for the upcoming races so as to defend their championship title.
