Sebastian Vettel thinks the team performed well during the qualifiers – Formula 1 news
Sebastian Vettel says that he is happy with his performance of the qualifier at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit.
He said that the team is very clear where the car stands today and are working to make it even better as the season progresses. He said that even though he is placed at a very good position ahead of the race but the real deal is performing well on race day.
He said, “We were clear about the car today and able to improve step by step in qualifying. I'm very happy with the result and the laps at the end of qualifying, as we were able to improve each time. It puts us in a great place, but nevertheless tomorrow
is more important. We put ourselves in a good position, eight metres ahead of Lewis and then we go from there. It's supposed to be hotter tomorrow, so it's important to get a good start and see what we can do. A lot of things can happen.”
He said that being ahead of the McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton who was clearly the man to beat on Friday practice run was a positive thing for the team. The weather is suppose to be hotter on race day which is good for the Red Bull car RB8 and not so good
for the McLarens.
Mark Webber said that he was surprised that he finished fourth and felt a bit disappointed. He mentioned that it was not one of the smoothest sessions he has had in the season so in that sense he is lucky to be fourth but he would have liked to be in a better
position.
Webber won the Monaco Grand Prix and will be looking to be the first driver this season to claim two Grands Prix wins as there have been different drivers for each Grand Prix completed this season.
Team principal Christian Horner said that the team showed a strong performance during the qualifiers and are looking well set ahead of the race.
It will be interesting to see how Red Bull fares on race day as Vettel will be looking to take the lead back from Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso.
