Sebastian Vettel tops the timesheets at Barcelona pre-season test session – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel scored the fastest time at the second day of the final pre-season test session that took place in Barcelona recently.
Vettel maintained his team’s fast pace as his teammate Mark Webber scored the fastest time for the team at the first day of the final pre-season test session.
He scored his fastest time during his 7th lap of the day which means that the team has a lot more in the bag as they were not running on a qualifying fuel load yet.
Sebastien Buemi scored the second fastest lap of the day in his Red Bull Toro Rosso before his car stopped in the middle of the track just a couple of laps later in the session causing a red flag. As a result, he was unable to run for around 30 minutes after
that but still managed to score a very useful 120 laps.
Lotus Renault GP’s Vitaly Petrov scored the third fastest time of the session. He scored this time during the morning session as he was focusing on longer runs in the afternoon later on.
However, Hispania Racing Team revealed that they are going to reveal their new car on Friday hopefully. The team will then test its new car for the first time that day and they also confirmed Tonio Liuzzi as Narain Karthikeyan’s teammate for the 2011 Formula
1 season.
Ferrari’s Felipe Massa scored the 5th fastest time of the session following McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton in 4th place. This was Ferrari’s first day of testing at the final pre-season test session as they wanted to stick to the new dates
the FIA announced for the final pre-season test session.
The FIA changed the dates for the final pre-season test session in Barcelona from February 8-11
to the February 9-12, 2011 and most of the teams were against this change with the exception of Ferrari, Williams and HRT.
Nevertheless, the teams were given the option of running for four days of their own likings as a result within March 8-12.
Team McLaren had another tough day as they were facing a major exhaust problem which forced Lewis Hamilton to return to the pits during the beginning of a race simulation in the morning.
The team is running out of time and it desperately needs to get rid of their current problems in order to enable its drivers to perform at their best at the season opening race at the season opening race that is expected to take place in Australia on March
27, 2011.
