Sebastian Vettel tops timesheets on final morning of Mugello test – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has topped the timesheets in the morning session of the last day of the three-day in-season test held at Mugello circuit.
Vettel set the best time of 1 minute and 21.267 seconds and completed 47 laps. The defending champion was followed by Romain Grosjean of Lotus who set an impressive second quickest lap time of 1 minute and 21.334 seconds after covering 31 laps.
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari came 3rd on the timesheets with his fastest time of 1 minute and 21.363 seconds as he looked busy testing the new updates in F2012. Moreover, the Spaniard completed 29 laps.
Additionally, he ran wide at turn 12 and broke the new front wing of the car which caused a delay of 2 hours as the team remained busy assessing the damage in the garage.
It will important to mention that after struggling in the pre-season testing programme, the Scarlet team had been looking forward to the Mugello test as they wanted to make the essential evaluations of their upgrade package so as to improve the pace of their
car in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix.
Alonso stayed ahead of Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso who set the fourth best time of 1 minute 22.143 seconds after completing 46 laps. Ricciardo was followed by Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari came fifth after setting his fastest time of 1 minute and 22.229
seconds.
Perez remained ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India who set the sixth quickest time of 1 minute and 23.002 seconds. Di Resta faced some reliability issues on the second day of the test and could only cover 14 laps. However, he managed to complete 34 laps
on the last day.
Heikki Kovalainen of Caterham completed 62 laps and set the 7th best time of 1 minute and 23.169 seconds.
McLaren test driver, Oliver Turvey came 8th on the timesheets after setting his best lap time of 1 minute and 22.221 seconds. Besides, Turvey covered 34 laps during the session.
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes AMG set the 9th fastest time of 1 minute and 24.017 seconds and completed 57 laps. The German driver was followed by Timo Glock of Marussia who came 10th with his best time of 1 minute and 24.310 seconds. In addition, Glock covered
54 laps.
Glock was followed by William’ driver Pastor Maldonado who could only complete 4 laps and set the 11th quickest time of 1 minute and 31.769 seconds.
The Mugello test was very crucial for every contender as it was the stage where they aimed to make the significant evaluations regarding the updates in their cars. Right now, all the teams are focusing to perform at their best in the upcoming European season.
