Sebastian Vettel was confident about his tyre wear control during Korean GP – Formula 1 news
Sebastian Vettel of the Red Bull racing team admitted that he had not been worried about tyre wear ahead of winning the Korean Grand Prix.
Vettel, who had been expected to win the pole position for Red Bull, came in second in the qualifying race on Saturday. His teammate Mark Webber had qualified first instead, snatching the pole position for Red Bull. Although, this Sunday, Vettel was back
in action and was able to score a remarkable race win.
His win did not come to him easily as during the second stint, at turn three, he suffered a lock up of his front right tyre. The particular lap made him lose five seconds from his lead of the race. He recovered from his loss soon after a stop at the pit
when he put in some fast laps.
Soon after, Vettel was warned about his front tyres by his race engineer over the radio. Vettel admitted that he was not worried about tyres as he thought that he had the situation under control but still he made sure to be careful so they did not have to
face any tyre problems at the end of the race.
“It was a perfect start for myself and after that quite a tight first stint,” Vettel said. “Towards the end then I was able to pull away a little bit and open a gap to Mark [Webber], which helped obviously to stay out a little bit longer. After that we had
a very good stop, a very strong second stint opening up the gap again only at the end of the second stint I had a mistake braking for turn three locking up the right front.”
Vettel admitted that many people were having problems with their front tyres during the race. In a post race conference, he appreciated the mechanics for his car greatly. He said that despite there had been very less time between the races of Japan and Korea,
his mechanics still had worked very hard and done a very good job. He added that they plan to carry on a similar path for the upcoming races.
Having won the last two championships, Vettel has a chance to win his third straight F1 championship now.
