Sebastian Vettel will retain his title: Martin Brundle
The current BBC commentator and a former Formula One racer, Martin Brundle expects to see Sebastian Vettel as the strongest man on the 2011 tracks. While talking to the media earlier today he predicted
to see Vettel retaining the World title this season.
The past four years have seen four different championship winners. At the beginning of the decade, the seven times world champion, Michael Schumacher was seen claiming the title for 5 consecutive
seasons. His spell on the track was broken by the two successive wins of Fernando Alonso in 2005 and 2006. However, Brundle now hopes to see the next year’s title falling in Vettel’s lap once again.
The Briton explained saying, "Winning a World Championship in consecutive years has proven to be quite difficult in the 60-year history of F1, but (Sebastian Vettel) has got all the hallmarks - he
is a good qualifier and a good racer. If you analyse 2010 - but for some unreliability and some impetuous driving, he could have had that sewn up by September so it is pretty obvious, I must accept that.”
The 2010 season has served the race fans with one of the most spectacular and awe-inspiring seasons in the sport’s history. The battle kept becoming intense with every passing race. Despite the fact
that the Red Bull’s RB6 was simply the fastest car on the track and both its drivers, Vettel and Webber, drove brilliantly, the team was not able to wrap up the drivers’ championship until the last round of the season. There were races like the Turkish Grand
Prix, where the poor driving skills prevented the team from bagging points and then there were other races where technical and mechanical issues halted the team from gaining podiums like the Korean round.
However, Brundle believes that the next season is going to see the German much more confident. He thinks that if Vettel is able to lay his hands on a car as competitive as last season, there will
be no stopping to the driver.
Brundle added, "If Adrian Newey works his magic again then Vettel could be a very, very strong contender but there are so many changes for 2011 - KERS is coming back, the adjustable rear wing and
by far the biggest is Pirelli. It will take them a little time to get their compounds and constructions right so we could see a very variable set of results in the first few grands prix."
