Sebastian Vettel wins Bahrain Grand Prix in emphatic style – Formula 1 news
Sebastian Vettel has admitted that he did not expect Kimi Raikkonen to pull away from him as easy as he did during the recently concluded Bahrain Grand Prix.
Sebastian Vettel was at pole starting the race and as was the case throughout 2011 once Vettel set out placed first he never looked back. Vettel had similar plans for Bahrain GP as well and he did just that by winning the race without being challenged much.
Raikkonen drove well to move up to second place and at one stage came within a second of Vettel but was unable to overtake him. The Lotus camp did very well in the race and Romain Grosjean showed that he has the skill to be amongst the best as he drove impressively
to move up to the second place before Raikkonen over took him.
Grosjean finished the race placed third. In the other Red Bull was Mark Webber who finished the race at 4th and would consider it a disappointment as he was in a good position to even be in contention for the race win. Nico Rosberg started the race placed
at fifth and finished it at fifth. The Force India driver Paul di Resta started his race at 10th and for a brief period of time was leading the grid. Di Resta took his pit stop later than others and Vettel gave his position away for a while as he got out of
the pits but was quick to take his place back while di Resta looked to manage his tyres as best as he could and maintain the best position he could.
Di Resta had a good duel with Rosberg for a while but it was inevitable for the Mercedes to overtake as di Resta drove with worn out tyres.
Fernando Alonso prior to the race said that he thinks a sixth or seventh place finish will be on cards for him and he was right as he finished seventh. The results though continue to show the lack of competitiveness of the new Ferrari.
Lewis Hamilton had a poor race as he started his race placed second and moved down to finish below Alonso at 8th. Hamilton was not helped by a pit stop delay as his left rear tyre took longer to be adjusted and the Brit lost around 6 seconds in the pits.
Felipe Massa secured his first points of the season and finished 9th, he showed better skill and comfort than he did in the previous races so far in the season. This would be a welcome sign for a struggling Ferrari camp but there is much work still to be
done.
Schumacher started his race from the back of the grid at 22nd but managed to move up to 10th which is a good result in hindsight but he would still be disappointed as he would know that he could have achieved a different result altogether if he did not have
that DRS trouble during the qualifiers which declined him a Q2 slot. Then a gearbox change meant he received a five-grid penalty.
Here are the Bahrain GP results in full.
