Sebastian Vettel wins third title as season ends with thrilling Brazilian GP – Formula 1 news
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel becomes the youngest triple champion as the 2012 F1 season comes to a thrilling end with the Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend.
The Brazilian GP once again lived up to its traditional excitement as various thrilling ups and downs were observed all over the track.
Vettel had qualified for the fourth position on the grid and started the race with a 13-point lead over his title rival, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Many things went wrong for the driver throughout the race but nothing could diminish his chances to win his
third consecutive title.
Vettel suffered a collision in the very first lap which put him in the wrong direction of the track and he ended at the back of the grid. He also lost his radio communication with the team. A wrong pit stop also hindered his progress as he was driving on
the wrong tyres for the rain. He finished sixth securing the title with three-point lead over his rival. Alonso had qualified in eighth position and finished the race in second place but that still did not help him win the title.
McLaren’s Jenson Button was the man who won this last Grand Prix of the season but only after his teammate Lewis Hamilton was taken out of the race from the lead by Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg.
Following Alonso was his teammate, Felipe Massa, in the third position. Massa, who is a Brazilian, drove nicely on his home ground and also let Alonso to pass him for the second place to help his winning chances. Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber finished the
race in fourth place.
Hulkenberg, who maintained lead for most of the race, lost his lead when Hamilton overtook him. He tried to reclaim his position but ended up colliding with Hamilton which earned him a penalty. He finished in fifth place.
Michael Schumacher of Mercedes was seventh behind Vettel. Following Schumacher were Toro Rosso’s Jean Eric Vergne, Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi and Lotus F1’s Kimi Raikkonen respectively.
The season has come to a nostalgic end as Hamilton leaves his long term team to join Mercedes. He will be replacing Schumacher for whom this epic race was a last one.
