Sebastian Vettel would be “stupid” if he considers joining Ferrari soon – Helmut Marko
It was recently revealed that Sebastian Vettel admitted that he would like to drive for Ferrari one day since they are one of the biggest Formula 1 teams in history and have been more consistent and reliable in the sport than Red Bull Racing Team.
Vettel became the youngest Formula 1 champion in the history of the sport after the 23-year-old secured the 2010 Formula 1 title by just 4 points over his most competitive rival Fernando Alonso at the very last race in Abu Dhabi.
Ferrari has definitely been one of the best teams statistically and since Fernando Alonso is already in the team, it would definitely be a sight to see these two drivers drive alongside one another.
Team Ferrari’s Principal Luca di Montezemolo responded to Vettel’s statement saying that Ferrari is also interested in hiring the 23-year-old driver in the near future.
However, Helmut Marko from Red Bull believes that Sebastian Vettel would be stupid if he considered switching to Ferrari anytime soon. Since Sebastian’s contract with Red Bull is effective until 2012, he believes that he might consider a move then.
“No question, it is my wish and goal to drive for Ferrari one day ... or Mercedes, another legendary brand. But right now I'm happy. I have two more years of contract with Red Bull and we have big plans,” Vettel said in November.
However, Sebastian Vettel is eager to secure his future in the sport by joining the most consistent team in the sport.
However, Marko is pretty confident that since the team has people like Christian Horner and Adrian Newey by its side, they are not going to underperform anytime soon.
“Sebastian won't leave us just because of the Ferrari legend. He is smart enough to know that the time would have to be right for him. He would have to be stupid to go there with Fernando Alonso,” Marko insisted.
Helmut said that he is sure that Sebastian won’t leave Red Bull for Ferrari and based on car performance; Red Bull is definitely going to be one of the best teams on the grid in 2011.
“We are the world championship team, and as long as we offer Sebastian a package that is better than the others, he's not going to leave just because of a mythical history,” he added.
