Sebastian or Gabriel?

Question

Down to 2 names - husband and I are doing battle. Joseph will be the middle name no matter what. Please let us know if you are in the US or if you are overseas. DH thinks it will make a difference in opinion.

Gabriel Joseph.  I love both names a lot, but Gabriel wins out for me.  Sebastien, to me, seems like one of those names that everyone knows, but ends up actually kind of weird to hear someone really named it lol.  I like it better as a middle name.  Plus, I think Gabe is a much stabler kind of nickname than Seb or, worse lol, Bastien (which sounds too close to the word bast---).

I'm from the US, by the way.

Wow. That is so weird. My son's name is Gabriel and if this baby is a boy, we're naming him Sebastian! Both of them are great names, in my humble opinion. Maybe Sebastian because it's a little less common than Gabriel (I'm seeing more and more boys named Gabriel since our son was born). We're in the U.S. Good luck!

I think Gabriel lends to a better nickname--Gabe.

I have lived in Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica and Korea (and the U.S.) and we speak French, Spanish and English in our house.

I think both names are beautiful, and both names lend well to the three languages we speak at our house.

But, if you have a kid growing up in the US, I just feel Gabriel lends to a better adult nickname.

Sebastian Joseph is the better name and I'm from the US.

Gabriel sounds too feminine with how popular Gabrielle is and they sound and look so similar.
