Sebastien Buemi: Toro Rosso can target competitors in last eight rounds of 2011 Formula 1 season
Toro Rosso driver Sebastien Buemi has said that he is sure they can beat their competitors in the last eight rounds of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The team has some made developments for the remainder of the season. Therefore, Buemi stated that he believes they can target their current rivals, which included Force India and Sauber in the 2011 championship battle with the new upgrades.
The Toro Rosso team stayed at the seventh place in the 2011 constructors’ championship for a few races. They lost their eighth place in the Hungarian Grand Prix to Force India, where they successfully scored decent points at the Hungaroring race circuit
and managed a seventh place in the championship.
The Italy-based outfit is sitting at the eighth position with 22 points behind Sauber and Force India team at the moment. However, Toro Rosso are looking forward to beat both of them in the 2011 championship battle.
Talking to reporters, Buemi said, “It was very difficult with the rule change, but now the team is on the up in terms of infrastructure and development. It takes a long time to get a team working properly together to use all of the tools like wind tunnels,
CFD and all of that. So it will keep getting better.”
He added, “I can't say how long it will take, but we will keep getting stronger in the future compared to teams like Williams, Sauber and Force India, which have been in F1 for so many years and have big histories. We have some stuff coming for Spa which
hopefully is going to help us.”
The Swiss driver told the media that the team is planning to make some changes in their STR6 car for the last eight rounds of the ongoing season. Buemi stated that he believes they can perform well on the grid in the next races, if they have a better car.
In addition, he mentioned that if the team does not introduce some new upgrades for the remainder of the season, it would be hard for them to beat their current rivals.
In the Hungarian race weekend, the 22-year-old driver took a below par start, as he secured his 23rd place for the race day. After a very close fight with Paul di Resta of Force India in the ending laps, he finished his
race in the 8th place behind him.
His teammate Jaime Alguersuari came at the 10th place in the final race classifications in Budapest.
Let’s see how both of the drivers manage their last eight races of the ongoing season with the new upgrades in their cars.
