Sebastien Buemi happy with Toro Rosso progress on day two of Barcelona testing – Formula 1 Update
Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Buemi was talking to media at the end of the second day of the Barcelona test session and said that the team is going in the right direction. He further went on to add that he was able to do the race and qualifying simulation and that
he was happy with his performance.
The first test day of the test session did not go as the Ferrari powered Toro Rosso would have liked, as Buemi’s car faced technical problems in the morning and was confined to the pits. However, on the second day, Buemi was able to complete 120 uninterrupted
laps with a fastest of 1 minute and 22.396 seconds, fractions slower than the pace sitter, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull.
Buemi was happy with the reliability of Toro Rosso and said, “We can be pleased with what we achieved today, because with 120 laps, it meant we completed the entire programme we had planned. Apart from the race simulation, I was also able to do a qualifying
simulation.”
Toro Rosso has been regarded by many Formula 1 drivers as a championship contender as Lewis Hamilton of McLaren-Mercedes said the other day that Toro Rosso is “ridiculously fast.” Ferrari’s driver, Fernando Alonso, also counted Toro Rosso as a championship
contender when he commented on how the team are catching up fast in the development process.
Toro Rosso has come up with an innovative car floor which is being called the ‘double floor’. It helps increase the aerodynamic capability of the car. Williams’s technical director Sam Michael also commented that the double floor will make Toro Rosso’s STR6
an aerodynamically powerful car.
The testing will continue for two more days, as Toro Rosso will have time to test the car for more modifications. Buemi summarized the performance and said, “Overall, it has been a productive test. Now, we must wait and see if we can make even more progress
over the next two days with Jaime driving and then we can see where we really are when we get to Melbourne.”
Buemi will hand the car over to Jamie Alguersuari, who will drive for the remaining test sessions.
