Sebastien Buemi tipped as Ferrari reserve driver for 2013 – Formula 1 news
Former Toro Rosso driver, Sebastien Buemi can possibly become Ferrari reserve driver in the 2013 Formula 1 season, according to a well-known Swiss journalist, Roger Benoit.
Benoit said that the future of Buemi is still uncertain in the sport despite his strong links in Force India. However, he said that the 24-year-old may find his way to the Scarlet team as a test driver in the next season.
“But another door could suddenly open,” veteran journalist Benoit wrote. “At Ferrari.”
“Buemi knows many secrets of Ferrari’s nemesis Red Bull,” he added.
Furthermore, he said that the Swiss driver can also extend his contract with Red Bull Racing as a test driver for the next season.
The Italian squad struggled throughout the pre-season testing programme this year as they failed to understand the design of their car. Additionally, their technical director, Pat Fry completely ruled out the probability of a podium finish in the season
opener and expressed that they might face difficulties in the opening few races.
Nonetheless, their driver, Fernando Alonso performed exceptionally well and tremendously limited the damage for this team.
The Spaniard performed well even with an incompetent car and successfully managed to score points with admirable consistency. Furthermore, he led the drivers’ standing for quite a long time during the year, but unfortunately lost his lead to Sebastian Vettel
of Red Bull Racing after facing retirements in a couple of races.
Even though, he lost the championship title to Vettel by only 3 points. Nonetheless, he has been voted as the driver of the year by the majority of the team principals in a poll conducted by Autosport.
At present, Ferrari are aiming to make some significant preparations during the winter testing so as to come up stronger right from the start of the coming season in order to win the championship fight.
“Now is the time to look ahead to next year,” Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo said. “I want us to start with a car that is immediately capable of fighting for the win and it has to be our first task. In order to achieve that, each one of us must improve
in our own roles by at least a millimetre.”
Let’s see whether Buemi will be able to sit behind the wheel of Ferrari car during the tests or not.
