Sebastien Grosjean believes Andy Murray can win more Grand Slams – Tennis News
Former world number four, Sebastien Grosjean of France, thinks that the best British tennis players at the moment, Andy Murray, would not stop at one Grand Slam and win some more till the end of his career.
The Frenchman thinks that there had been many top players in the past but the sport of tennis did not see the same level of fierce competition before. He thinks that Murray is a bit unlucky that he is playing at the same time when
three of the greatest players of all time i.e. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are there.
In a recent interview, Grosjean said, “There have been many great champions over the years, and people shouldn’t forget about Borg, McEnroe, Connors, Agassi, Sampras and all the others, but you could say that there has never been
a stronger time than now. It has been tough for Andy, playing at the same time as Federer, Nadal and Djokovic and he had gone close before, losing his first four grand slam finals. So to finally win a first grand slam title, I’m pleased for him, and he has
the talent to now go on to win more slams.”
None of the former set of players dominated the world of tennis the way Federer, Nadal and Djokovic have done in the last nine years. Murray kept on being in and out of their category but now he has made a permanent place, making
it ‘Big 4’.
The Brit changed his status by capturing two of the five biggest titles this year. First he defeated Djokovic and Federer in back to back matches to win Gold Medal at the London Olympics at the start of August. Few weeks later,
the 25-year-old stunned the former world number one, Djokovic, in the final of the US Open to capture his first Grand Slam crown.
When Murray lost at the hands of Ferrer in the quarter-finals of the French Open, many tennis analysts and followers threw him out of the ‘Big 4’ and instead started calling ‘Big 3’.
However, the Brit’s heroics in the last three months have silenced his critics and made them to accept that he also has the class to be called a true champion. The Scotland born players used to choke in big matches before the US
Open, going down in four straight Grand Slam title matches. However, his new coach, Ivan Lendl, has proved to be a turning point in his career.
