The Michael Schumacher of the World Rally Championship, Sebastien Loeb has won the WRC 7 times and is known as one of the best Rally drivers currently known to man. Sebastien competed in the Race of Champions as well that recently
took place.
Loeb finished in 2nd place after losing to Filipe Albuquerque in the grand finale. But it seems that Sebastien is the present and future of WRC.
However, the 36 year old driver stated that he is not interested in joining Formula 1 as he believes that he is not a young driver and since he has earned the experience required to win the WRC, he should stick to it and enhance
his abilities even further.
Sebastien made the right decision because clearly, Formula 1 is a completely different form of Motorsport and since he has made a name for himself in the WRC, he should not throw it away just to show the world that he is versatile.
Besides, Formula One requires more precision, physical fitness and frankly speaking, speed and skill in every way.
“Formula One is over for me. If I had a chance to drive for fun, I would, but I don't think I will compete in a race,” Loeb told the Media.
The competition in Formula 1 is far more competitive than it is in the WRC and the strategy and cars used in the two sports are completely different from one another. Conversely if a Formula One driver does make the shift from
F1 to WRC, he would have a tough time getting used to it. The 2007 Formula One World Champion Kimi Raikkonen decided to join the WRC in 2009 but failed to compete against the top running drivers.
“Like you see for Kimi also, it's hard work to get the experience and for sure the other way would be the same. When you see the young drivers coming into Formula 1, they are 20 years old and I am 36, so maybe I have to think of
something else now,” Sebastien added.
