Sebastien Rosseler’s participation at the Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders doubtful
Sebastien Rosseler had a terrible start to his 2012 crusade. The cyclist broke his collarbone during his debut race of the season at Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne.
He could not finish the race and had to withdraw from the event. Rosseler has still not fully recovered from the accident and his participation at the Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders is doubtful.
He told La Derniere Heure, “I had the impression I was feeling ok during the reconnaissance of Het Nieuwsblad, but that wasn’t the case at Kuurne”.
“I was quickly dropped on the Kruisberg. In cycling, there are no miracles after such a long absence from the peloton. After I was dropped, I didn’t have the desire or the strength to get back on,” Rosseler concluded.
The 30-year-old joined Team Garmin-Barracuda for the 2012 season after spending two years with Team RadioShack (2010-2011).
He also represented Team Quick Step (2005-2009) and Team Relax Bodysol (2004) during his nine year career.
The Belgian finished first overall during the Driedaagse van de Panne in the last season along with a stage victory. He claimed the second overall spot during the Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen 2011.
Rosseler’s last race with Team RadioShack was back in June 2011 and had to abandon rest of the season because of a repeated injury to his knee.
He trained really hard to get back in shape for the 2012 season but the crash at Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne shattered his morale.
“I had really worked hard to get back to a good level, so having to stop again because of this clavicle fracture was hard to swallow. So it’s hard for me to be positive at the moment,” he explained.
Team Garmin-Barracuda had an outstanding start to its 2012 campaign. It’s season wins include a stage 2 win at the Tour of Qatar, a stage 2  and a stage 3 victory at the Tour Mediterraneen and a stage 1 success at the Tour de Langkawi.
A total number of eleven cyclists joined the American squad for the new season, namely Sebastien Rosseler, Raymond Kreder, Jacob Rathe, Koldo Fernandez, Alex Howes, Robert Hunter, Fabian Wegmann, Nathan Haas, Jack Bauer, Thomas Dekker and Alex Rasmussen.
Only time will tell if Rosseler recovers in time to ride the Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders for the Team Garmin-Barracuda.
