Sebastien Toutant gets the triple cork 1440 under his belt: X Games Update
Sebastien Toutant, also known as Seb Toots, once again reminded everyone on 10 April why he is regarded as one of the most talented rider by the snowboarding community. The 18-year-old Canadian cleanly landed a backside triple cork 1440
at the Red Bull Park session at Squaw Valley in California, USA, to officially become one of the three snowboarders to have accomplished this feat.
The 24-year-old Norwegian, Torstein Horgmo, sent everyone in the state of awe with the first ever triple cork 1440, in X Games, on 28 Jan, early this year. Speculations begun about the next rider to most likely pull off the mind-boggling trick. Even
though majority of the bets were placed on Toutant, it turned out to be the 17-year-old Canadian, Mark Morris, who beat his compatriot to it.
However, nobody expected Toutant to sit idly. It was only a matter of time before the 18-year-old would join the list of riders to have landed the spectacular trick. He lived up to the expectations and landed the trick on Sunday morning at the private
training centre.
Talking to a journalist about the recently accomplished feat, Toutant said that he had spent the entire season thinking about the different triple corks. Even though he was capable of landing it, he did not get enough time to get down to it because
of remaining busy in numerous contests.
He further said, “I've been waiting for a good jump to try one. The jump today was good. It was sunny. I practiced a couple back 10 double corks, and then it took me about three or four tries. I landed at the bottom of the jump and stomped it like
it was a double. It felt really good.”
This season has turned out to be quite a remarkable one for Toutant so far. With the International Skiing Federation (FIS) Big Air pre-season competition win followed by a victory in the first Air & Style in China this November, Toutant was soaring
with confidence while making his way to his first-ever Winter X Games (WX) this January. He continued to exhibit his excellent form during WX 15, winning the gold medal in Slopestyle.
Even in the WX Big Air finals, it took a triple cork 1440 from Horgmo to keep the WX rookie from getting his hands on his second gold. He ended the 2010/11 season of Swatch Ticket to Ride (TTR) World Snowboarding Tour in fifth place. Now, he has earned
himself the right to boast a triple cork in his arsenal.
Even though there are only three snowboarders, who have been able to cleanly land the triple cork, the list is expected to grow now that the competition season is over. The boards are ready to hit the jumps for amusement and to practice new tricks.
