Sebastien Toutant’s backside triple cork 1440’s video released
You may have heard the news that the third snowboarding triple cork 1440 has been landed by Sebastien Toutant, an 18-year-old professional snowboarder from Canada. The news is now a few days old. However you were probably anxiously waiting to catch the sensational
trick with your own eyes. The wait is finally over. Toutant’s backside triple cork 1440’s video has been released.
If there was any doubt regarding the authenticity of the news, then those doubts have been removed after the release of the video. The video, shot by a Phantom camera, clearly shows Toutant doing what only a couple of boarders have done before him. Thanks
to the Phantom camera technology, the footage can be watched in slow motion. This helps to get an ever clearer idea of what is going on, as the action sports athlete hits the jump, soars into the air and does three complete rotations in the air before making
a clean landing.
Toutant, also known as Seb Toots among his fans and the snowboarding community, threw down the spectacular backside triple cork 1440 during a private Red Bull session at Squaw Valley in California, USA, on April 10. Ever since the 24-year-old Norwegian,
Torstein Horgmo, introduced the trick last year.
The snowboarding community knew that it was only a matter of time before the 18-year-old Canadian will go for it and become the second man with the trick under his belt. However, due to his busy competition schedule, he did not get enough time to get down
to do what Horgmo had done. During this time, his compatriot, 17-year-old Mark McMorris, earned himself the boasting rights after becoming the second rider to successfully land the trick.
It was only a few days ago that the Toutant got time to get his name added to the list of snowboarders with the mind-blowing trick in their arsenal.
“I've been waiting for a good jump to try one. The jump today was good. It was sunny,” said Toutant. “I practiced a couple back 10 double corks, and then it took me about three or four tries. I landed at the bottom of the jump and stomped it like it was
a double. It felt really good.”
The recent triple cork just added to the list of successes by Toutant this season. The season has arguably been one of the most remarkable one for him. Good things started happening to him last year when he clinched a win in the International Skiing Federation
(FIS) Big Air pre-season competition.
He followed this success with a win in the first Air & Style in China this past November. High on confidence, the young-gun travelled to Aspen in Colorado, USA, for his first ever Winter X Games (WX) this January. The trip turned out to be a Cinderella-story
for him as he managed to win the gold medal in the Slopestyle event. The young Canadian was going strong in the WX Big Air finals as well and it took a triple cork 1440 from Horgmo to keep him from taking his second gold medal home.
Toutant also had an excellent Swatch Ticket to Ride (TTR) World Snowboarding Tour 2010-11 season. He finished the season in fifth place.
Toutant’s stars surely seem to be shining brightly for the last few months as he continues to climb the ladder of success and earn himself a reputation of one of the best snowboarders in the world.
