Secluded Hawaiian honeymoon?

Which Hawaiian island is the best for a nice romantic honeymoon? We both want to relax but have a good time. We are looking for a more secluded island. We both dont drink so we wont be too much into the night life (clubs, bars, etc.). Any suggestions or websites with good information?

  1. My favorite island is Maui.  One summer my grandparents rented some little condos right across from the beach at Kehi.

  2. Definitely Kauai.  It's smaller and less populated than the big island or Oahu, but still has enough towns and things to do to make it fun.

My husband and I just got back from Hawaii for our belated honeymoon.  We visited Oahu and Kauai and while Oahu was fun, we loved Kauai so much more.  We're like you guys (don't really like to frequent clubs or bars) and don't like to be inudated with a ton of people.  Kauai was so much more relaxed...plus, Waimea Canyon is there, which is the "Grand Canyon" of the islands (really spectacular) as well as the Na Pali coast, which is breathtaking and seen in a lot of movies.

I would suggest staying in Po'ipu (got to try a Puka Dog!) or Hanalei.  Hanalei is on the north side of the island and more secluded with some great beaches, but it also has a little town part that has some really good restaurants (great fishmarket as well).  The other nice thing about the island is you can drive from the south side to the north side in about an hour and a half.

The best resource we found for Hawaii were the "Ultimate Guidebook"  books.  Straightforward opinions with awesome advice on everything from restaurants to hiking to attractions.

You can find these books at the library if you don't want to buy one.

    Good luck and have fun!

  3. Ok, I know most people say that Oahu is the LEAST secluded island, and they are probably right.  However, I think if you get out of the immediate Honolulu-Waikiki area, you can be as secluded as you like and still be close enough to enjoy the fun things that "downtown" has to offer.

My husband and I stayed at a private (rented) condo in Makaha, about an hour northwest of the city.  It was quiet, the beach across the street was nearly deserted at any time of the day, and we could go 5 minutes further down the road to take a long quiet walk along a hiking trail.  But when we wanted to do the fun touristy stuff (luau, hike up Diamond Head volcano, visit Pearl Harbor, shop) it was only an hour away.  We did a little of both, and it was the perfect honeymoon/vacation!  Enjoy your trip - no matter where you go, Hawaii is BEAUTIFUL!!

  4. I would suggest going to Kau'i. It doesnt have half as many tourist as Oahu and it is just as beautiful. I would suggest searching for places on the island that arent main tourist areas. It will be less expensive plus you can enjoy it better. If you do decide to go to Oahu, I would stay on the west side (Makaha). You can travel down to Honolulu and visit the beaches. Its expensive to stay there and a bit overrated.

If you have any questions just ask me. I live on Oahu.

  5. Kauai! It's the garden island and so beautiful. Doesn't have the night life, really gives you that island seclusion feel. But there's still lots to do. Gorgeous beaches. Truly friendly and helpful locals. I recommend it
