Second Asian Volleyball Cup for Women: Successful teams in Pool B Preliminary round
The 2nd Asian Volleyball cup was held in Taicing, China from 12-20 September, 2010. In the Pool B preliminary round on 19th September, eight teams contested their abilities against each other. Thailand played against Japan and captured
3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-20) while Korean ladies followed the winners’ footsteps in next match. They battled out a fantastic match with Kazakhstan and attained 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, and 25-18). In the third and fourth match, women’s team of Vietnam and season’s
fit China’s team pulled out successes against Chinese Taipei and Iran, respectively.
Thailand overpower Japan
The Taicing Gymnasium in China experienced a great wave of jubilation as Thailand celebrated victory over Japan in the first match of Pool B preliminary round. Japan’s team demonstrated good game but Thailand sparked with more outstanding run and took lead
in the game. Thailand’s attackers and blockers displayed their power in the first set. They influenced Japanese team with swift attack and strong defence. They had a control over their movement and claimed the first set by keeping the upper-hand on Japan.
The following two sets were also overwhelmed by Thai women. They continued with success and scribbled their names in the winner’s box. Japan failed to create any buzz in the game and lost all three sets.
Korean supremacy on Kazakhstan
The second competition of the day put Korea and Kazakhstan on two sides of the net. The match attracted 500 spectators, who witnessed the battle for better status. Kazakhstan opened the game with an average speed. It didn’t pose a great threat to Korea as
first set caused trouble for Kazaks on account of bad ball-reception. Korea was in commanding position and turned the game in their favour. The first set came successful for Korea.
The triumph provided them a kick in the game, and they cruised past Kazakhstan in the next two sets. Kazak side remained consistent in keeping their score at a safe distance from Korean digits, which resulted in Kazakhstan’s defeat in the match. Korean players
bagged victory and left the court with a glee on their faces.
Vietnam vs. Chinese Taipei
The third match of the preliminary round in Pool B saw Vietnam and Chinese Taipei in a head-to-head battle. Around 1500 spectators made their presence felt in the sports hall by cheering happy slogans. Vietnam kicked off the first set on a very good note
and dismissed Chinese Taipei after a close fight (29-27). Somehow, the winners of first set couldn’t keep their lead in the next set. Chinese Taipei crawled back and won the second set with a margin of five points (25-20). Afterwards, they remained steady
in their approach and grabbed consecutive victories in last two sets. Finally Chinese Taipei team settled down for conquest with a score of 3-1 (27-29, 25-20, 25-12, and 25-20).
China-Iran 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, and 25-13)
The time of the day came when local fans got a chance to see their team in the court. The host China took on Iran in the last match of the day. They had done good home-work and seemed fully prepared for the kill. The Taicing Sports Hall was totally sold-out,
as the match drew 3,000 spectators.
China jumped in the game as a fierce attacker. Chinese team was equipped with all necessary tools and techniques to turn the game according to their mood. The powerful serves and sharp aces stormed Iranian side. Iran faced much difficulty to stay on their
feet and scores of pressure mounted on their shoulders. All three sets of the game belonged to Chinese team and they picked up 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, and 25-13) win over Iran.
