Second Californian bred stakes race for Ruler of Dubai-This time he landed the I’m Smokin Stakes at Del Mar
Harout Keshishian’s Ruler of Dubai jumped in the lead right from the outset to register back to back wins after running away and never looking back in the $100,000 I’m Smokin Stakes for Californian bred 2-year-olds at Del Mar on 5 September, 2011.
Trained by George Papaprodromou, who is following the footsteps of his father, is well experienced in training thoroughbreds and he has been in the business of conditioning runners for the past 19 years.
Recently at Del Mar, under Garrett Gomez, George sent Ruler of Dubai in the 5 ½ furlong Graduation Stakes.
The victory by Ruler of Dubai in the $100,000 event gave George Papaprodromou his first in a stakes race.
He was sent as a 14 to 1 outsider despite the fact that Garrett Gomez was going to ride the 2-year-old gelding.
Ruler of Dubai engaged himself with another 10 to 1 long shot, Three Vases, and outdueled him in a stretch long battle to win the Del Mar featured on 3 August, 2011.
Ruler of Dubai is the son of Tribal Rule, first foal of his dam, O K Topless by Old Topper.
He grabbed the lead right after breaking from the gate and he led from start to finish.
Ruler of Dubai landed his second consecutive win in as many starts in the Californian bred stakes.
It was a pretty convincing victory, and slowly the young gelding is coming to his own and recognising his primary distance, race after race.
He romped by a massive margin of 3 ¼ lengths over the favoured, Champions Gate, who was sent as the 3 to 5 favourite to win the race.
Champions Gate didn’t have a great start as he startled and then bobbled in the beginning but rallied hard to finish second, narrowly beating Rousing Sermon by a head, who finished third in the race.
Ruler of Dubai has run a handful of races in his 1-year racing career, 5 to be exact, all on Poly Tracks.
This time was no different as he covered the 6 furlong distance on synthetic surface in 1 minute and 9.42 seconds, recording Ruler of Dubai’s third win out of 5 starts.
