Second Place finish at the French Open helps Molinari move into Ryder Cup standings
Francesco Molinari has moved into the automatic qualification list of European Ryder Cup team, thanks to his second place finish at the Alstom Open de France. In the last round, Molinari shot a 64, lowest of the day, to finish second.
Molinari is now in for a direct place on the Ryder Cup team. He is at the 10th spot and has 149.49 points, not far behind from Sergio Garcia, who at the moment has 155.58 points.
The past few months have been very successful for Molinari. He won at the Reale Seguros Open de España and then went on to secure a 7th place finish at the BMW PGA Championship.
He could not come up with his best at the ISPS Handa Wales Open and the US Open Championships but at the Irish Open and Alstom Open de France, he hit his stride and finished 10th and 2nd respectively.
Molinari was part of the 2010 Ryder Cup Team that defeated USA and surely he wants to be a part of the 2012 Ryder Cup Team as well. His recent form indicates that he is in very fine nick and if he continues to play like the way he is playing, it is certain
that he will feature in the 2012 Ryder Cup.
Lurking behind the Italian in the Ryder Cup standings is Rafa Cabrera-Bello, the Spaniard is sitting on the 11th position with 134.42 points.
The way Francesco Molinari is playing, it is highly unlikely that he will lose his automatic Ryder Cup spot.
With just few months to go before the Ryder Cup starts, every tournament is to be taken very seriously by the Ryder Cup hopefuls, because a slip here or there might cost them their chance to represent Europe.
The qualification for the Ryder Cup ends on the 26th of August, till then every tournament is very important. Other Ryder Cup hopefuls are Padraig Harrington and Marcel Siem.
Both of them experienced success recently. However, they may not be in the qualification list but their performances might just be enough to convince Olazabal, Europe’s Ryder Cup Captain, to take them along for the 2012 Ryder Cup.
